Notes From Monterrey, Costa Rica
The first Arenal Eco Adventure Photo Workshop is in the books, and it was better than I could have hoped for. Of course I wanted to help the attendees improve their photography on the trip, but I wanted them to have an experience beyond what they would see through their viewfinders. We had nearly perfect weather the whole week. We did get rained out one afternoon, but we had already seen a lot of animals in the forest that day and we were nearly finished anyway.
Our hosts, Steve and Debbie, at Leaves and Lizards were perfectly hospitable as usual. Their staff prepared great meals for us (and delicious cocktails!) each day. The views from each cabin at L&L are truly breathtaking. You can host your own hummingbird photo clinic on your front porch each morning.
Thanks to our great sponsors… Outdoor Photo Gear, Hunt’s Photo and Artistic Photo Canvas. Your support was greatly appreciated, and hopefully we can work together again soon.
I’m going to write a post for each day individually, but I wanted to give a quick overview first. Stay tuned for more, and start making plans to join me in 2011!
¡Pura Vida!

So You Want to Make Better Pictures…
I have a few of steps that may help.
1) Hang out with people who are better photographers than yourself. This means go out and shoot with people who you can learn from. If you want to shoot more than just landscapes, look at magazines and Ads. Find out who’s shooting the pictures you like and contact the photographers. (more…)

Don and his wife Margaret came with Jesse and I to scout locations for the Arenal Eco Adventure after our Edge of the World Workshop in Mal Pais, Costa Rica in March. Here are some of his thoughts about the Arenal Volcano area… (more…)

Location: Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Albuquerque, NM
Shot list : This is not really a location but it is absolutely a must do. The Balloon Fiesta is typically in early October.
There are a lot of opportunities to get some tremendous shots while down there. Yes, there will be a LOT of people with cameras. Yes, you will have to deal with heads in your shots (unless you get creative). Is it worth is? ABSOLUTELY!
You will want to do AT LEAST 1 Mass Assent in the morning and 1 glow at night. There is also a key grab that will let you get some nice shots of the balloons in flight and low to the ground. (more…)
